The Wonderland Dragon Boat Club's Waves of Fury team competed in the 15th London Dragon Boat Festival yesterday. It was a picture perfect day, the first time in the festivals history with no rain. Although the team did not bring home any "hardware" we are proud to have improved our times significantly and move up two divisions to end the day racing in the "B" division consolation race. We came in third in this division and had a great time doing it!
An even better accomplishment by this "hard paddling" team is achieving 2nd place in the overall fundraising pledges for the Children's Hospital. Because of the total raised by the team we will receive a $200.00 discount off of the festival race fees for 2008. Our top team fundraisers were Dana Copeland, Joanne Geddes and Carolin Vermeersch. Jamie Pentland was also honoured to be asked to steer for the Ottawa "Busting Out" Breast Cancer Survivor Team, he participated in the very moving ceremony that recognizes the struggles survivors face and remembers those that have lost their battle. We would also like to thank all the Fanshawe Yacht Club members who were able to attend and support the dragon boat festival. We weren't able to wave at all the sailors out on the Lake but we did see you, thanks for sharing our day!
