Wind on the training day was light, but the team had a chance to work with great coaches from the Ontario Sailing Association and also to figure out the effects of the current on the race course.
The regatta itself was windy both days with winds of 15-20 knots and big waves; challenging conditions for the beginning of the season. The team sailed well but were faced with some injuries and boat problems.
Antoine Brouillard was the top finisher from the team in 38th, followed by Duncan McKillop in 39th,Thomas Johnstone in 43rd, Brooke Wareing in 47th and Laura Ries in 56th. There were 63 radials in the event and it was a good start to the competition season for our team in conditions that are not often see on Fanshawe Lake.
Two of our sailors, Antoine and Thomas, were featured in the photo of an article in the Sarnia Observer newspaper (Antoine is in the center, Thomas is on the right).
Next up for the team is the two back-to-back regattas at Port Credit Yacht Club; the Steerer's Regatta (Thursday July 19 - Friday July 20) and the Four Sisters Regatta (Saturday July 21 - Sunday July 22).
