Each year at the end of August, the Fanshawe Yacht Club holds the Club Championship Regatta. All participating boats must have a Club member or Sailing School student on board.
On the second day of racing, the winners, or "champions", from each one-design and open fleets remain on the water for one race more than the other boats competing. These champions then face-off in the Race of Champions, to determine the overall champion.
The Race of Champions uses Portsmouth numbers (since the boats are from different classes) to calculate the winning boat, or "Champion of Champions". This single-handled sailor or double-handed team holds the title of Club Champion for a year.
